Nick Jonas has been my role model ever since the Jonas Brothers appeared on Disney Channel. I became a fan of Nick Jonas several years before I was diagnosed with type one diabetes. When I was a child, I was diagnosed with a condition called pre-diabetes, which is when a person's blood sugar levels are higher than normal. The good thing about this condition is that the person can postpone a diabetes diagnosis by following a healthier lifestyle.
Fun Fact: There are many other celebrities living with T1d like Jennifer Stone (Wizards of Waverly Place) , Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) and Tom Hanks (Toy Story).
A little bit about Nick's diagnosis story: (as well as I can remember)
Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes 14 years ago at age 13. His brothers Joe and Kevin started to notice some weird symptoms he was having before and after shows. He was always really thirsty, and thirsty, and had to go to the bathroom a lot on their trips back home from shows. These are all signs of type one diabetes. (Hint: if you want to learn more watch the Jonas Brothers documentary on amazon). One day, his family and his brothers noticed that nick became really skinny. His parents took him to the pediatrician's office to get him checked. The doctors ran blood and urine tests and found out that his glucose levels were extremely high. That night he was diagnosed with type one diabetes. He was also planning on performing at a concert with his brothers that night. He couldn't back out of the opportunity. He used all the courage and energy he had and performed with his brothers, even though he had just been diagnosed with some condition he was still unaware of. That night he also wrote and performed his song, A Little Bit Longer. The song is about his diagnosis.
Fast forward to 2019, Nick Jonas is happily married to an Indian Actress, Priyanka Chopra. He also reunited with his brothers, wrote an album with them, and is currently on their second leg of tour with them. He is also staring in the Second Jumaji movie, which comes out in December and he is going to be a judge on The Voice. He is more than a triple threat. He can act, sing, inspire, and write songs.
He also, recently started a non-profit organization called Beyond Type One. This organization strives to teach the world what it means to have diabetes. Beyond Type One is on all social media platforms and they have an amazing website.
